Therapeutic Early Childhood Program
An onsite classroom coupled with educational home visits that focus on increasing positive behaviors in children, social emotional development, problem solving, and communication. Because of family stress, children who participate in the therapeutic classroom are often developmentally delayed or acting out behaviorally to such an extent, they are being expelled from traditional daycare settings!
The Therapeutic Early Childhood Program has three components:
- Children ages 12 months - five attend a therapeutic classroom 6 hours/week where they receive therapeutic interventions. The classroom utilizes a 1:3 adult/child ratio.
- Classroom teachers visit the child’s home a minimum of once/month teaching:
- Effective parenting and coping skills.
- Appropriate, non-punitive discipline strategies.
- Age appropriate expectations.
- How to access community resources.
- Ongoing child development screenings to identify and address delays.
-
The teacher works with the parent and child in community settings that may be particularly challenging (i.e. grocery store, riding the bus). If the child is in a regular daycare, the teacher will work with the daycare teacher on a behavior plan that increases the positive behaviors for the child.
